Megan’s Famous Raspberry Tarts: Health, Mana, and Energy Cups

Every video game has potions – ways to restore health, mana, or energy. These mini tarts, or health cups, are a tasty way to restore your low stat! They are made with raspberries, blueberries, and lemon filling, representing the colors generally used for health, mana, and energy.

The raspberry tarts are my personal favorite, and my family loves them too – I make them every year for thanksgiving.  My inspiration for the tarts actually came from making the cake from portal, which had raspberry filling.  I loved the filling so much, and came up with the best way to eat more filling!

Mini Raspberry Tarts
Makes 12-16 tarts, depending how thick you make each crust


  • 1 stick butter
  • 1 1/4 c. flour
  • 2 Tbsp. vanilla-infused sugar
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1-4 Tbsp. cold water


Health (Raspberry)

  • 3/4 cup frozen raspberries
  • About 1/4-1/2 cup vanilla-infused sugar, to taste

Mana (Blueberry)

  • 3/4 cup frozen blueberries
  • About 1/4-1/2 cup vanilla-infused sugar, to taste

Energy (Lemon)

  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 6 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • 3 large egg yolks, well beaten
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 teaspoons grated lemon peel



Mix together the flour and sugar.
When ready, cut the butter into the flour mixture with a pastry blender, until mixture is crumbly (butter chunks should be pea-sized or smaller). Slowly add cold water, 1 Tbsp. at a time, just until dough holds together when pinched.

Stop adding water as soon as the dough can hold together.  Shape dough into a disk and refrigerate while you make the filling.

Filling (Health and Mana):

Mash 3/4 cup of berries to a fairly smooth, jam-like consistency. Add vanilla-infused sugar 1 Tbsp. at a time until raspberry mixture is sweet enough for your taste.

Now preheat your oven to 425 degrees.
Take the dough out of the fridge and tear off a small hunk to fill the muffin tin about 2/3 of the way up. Press your thumb in the center of the dough to make a center and push the dough up the sides of the pan.

Repeat until all the dough is used up.
Spread the filling mixture evenly between the crust cups you’ve created – about 1 heaping teaspoon each.  Place one fresh raspberry (or blueberry) in each corresponding cup.

Bake at 425 for 15 minutes, until crust is set.
Let cool before removing from pan (filling will be very hot!).
